At Elim we recognise that the Church is not just called to invite people to its services – a 'come and see' approach. We are also called to 'go and tell' and to 'go and show': to be, and to bring, God’s light and Life into every sector of society.
Your giving is impacting people, both locally and globally. 10% of everything given at Elim goes toward impacting our world. Elim has always recognised that the Church is missionary by nature – it isn't a special side project, it's who we are.
There are a number of ways in which our church seeks to bring life to others, including a 'top-down' organisational approach and a 'bottom-up', more individual approach.
Dunedin is a student city, and is the better for it! Our church is situated only a few minutes walk from both the University and Polytech campuses – a mission field on our doorstep. A significant part of our ministry as a church is directed to reaching out to students through those members of our church who are also students. We do this chiefly through our Night Church service, student lifegroups, and personal evangelism. Many of our church members are also involved in Student Life, Red Frogs and some of the other excellent organisations God is using to reach people for Jesus on campus.
The Dunedin Night Shelter offers emergency and short-term accommodation for people who have become homeless. As a church, we support their excellent work by providing, on an ongoing basis, a steady stream of frozen meals. Our aim is to keep their freezers full! Why don't you join us?

Each month, a team from our church heads down to our local prison to run a worship service, and spend time with those prisoners who want to attend. We seek to communicate that no matter what anybody does, they cannot get beyond the reach of the love of Christ. This love, which exerted its mighty power in raising Jesus from the dead, can turn anybody's life around. We are living proof! We worship and serve the God of a second chance.
Every Christmas Dunedin Elim reaches out to people in our community who find this a lonely and difficult time, including those at Women’s Refuge, Otago Hospice and inmates at Milton Prison. We invite our church family to sponsor one or more Christmas gift boxes that are packed full of yummy treats and the message of God’s love. We have heard many testimonies from people whose lives have been deeply touched when they have received a Christmas gift from us.
Red Frogs recognize that the culture of young people is dominated by alcohol and that excessive consumption of alcohol and other substances can lead to dangerous and life altering behaviours. Therefore Red Frogs make it their mission to provide a positive peer presence in alcohol-fuelled environments where young people gather, educate young people on safe partying behaviours, and promote and provide non-alcoholic and/or diversionary activities that engage young people in these environments.
