The Legacy Offering

The Background

Jesus said "I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). 'Church' was Jesus' idea in the first place. Jesus is committed to building His Church globally, and that includes our church. Jesus is committed to building Elim Church Dunedin.

Jesus has given proof of this. In 2009 to 2010, God performed several miracles that enabled us to purchase the land that the church is on for the next generation.

You can listen to that full story, Taking the Land, as told by Pastor Mike Griffiths, the previous senior Pastor at Elim Dunedin.

God wants us as a church to be located strategically in the centre of Dunedin and close to the university campus.

The Story

One Thursday in August 2016, Pastor Adam Dodds was being prayed for by the other Elim pastors in the lower South Island, on this miracle land. During that prayer time God dropped an idea into his heart: to pay off our debt as a church so we are debt-free.

Adam explains: "After praying about it, I tested the idea with the church elders, and the previous and current National Leaders of Elim New Zealand. Through this process God confirmed in my heart that this Legacy Offering is from Him."

The Legacy Offering is about securing the land that God has given us and owning it debt-free for future generations. Proverbs 13:22 says, "Good people leave an inheritance to their children's children."

$1 million – the initial church loan as of July 2010

$737,500 is the principal already paid off the church mortgage through God’s provision and the church’s generosity.

$262,500 is the amount we have left to pay.

For the church to become mortgage free by the end of July 2017, to secure the land for future generations.*

With the church mortgage paid off, we will be able to make significant savings annually. This will position us well for future projects that we believe God is speaking to us about.

*July 2017 is when the remaining portion of the mortgage reverts from fixed to floating.

The AIM:

To raise $300,000. 90% of this will pay off the church mortgage.

The tithe (10%) will be given away to help create a legacy in partner churches in Indonesia, in New Zealand, and here in Dunedin.

$300,000 is a lot of money, and breaks down to approximately $1000 for every 10m2 of land.

Creating a Legacy Together

Join us in seeking the Lord about how you might be a part of creating this Legacy as Elim Church Dunedin for future generations.

As a church family let us seek the Lord. Ask him how much He wants you to give to the Legacy Offering. No amount is too small or too large.

If you are married, remember as a couple to be in enthusiastic agreement on all major decisions.

Once you settle on a number, you can do one of two things:

  1. Give the money and mark it as "Legacy".  Click here for details on how to give.

  2. Fill out the pledge form, available at the church reception and info desk, and put it in the offering bag at church.

Finally - PRAY. Let's pray as a church family for the Lord to provide.
